Requirements

Guardians of the Rift

  • Temple of the Eye: Completion of the Temple of the Eye quest.
  • Runecraft levels: Level 10 Runecraft to start the quest, and effectively level 27+ Runecraft to access the minigame after quest XP.
  • Tools: Any pickaxe for mining guardian fragments, plus a chisel if you want to craft rift guardians from essence piles.

Blood runecrafting (Zeah Blood Altar)

  • Runecraft level: Level 77 Runecraft to craft blood runes at the Kourend Blood Altar.
  • Supporting skills: Level 38 Mining and 38 Crafting to mine dense essence blocks and chip them into dark essence blocks, then fragments. High Agility (around 73+) is strongly recommended for faster laps.
  • Essence: Access to the dense essence mine and dark essence workflow (dense blocks → dark blocks → dark fragments).

Experience & points

  • During the game:
    • Each guardian stone used on the Great Guardian gives 5 Runecraft XP and two energy of its type (elemental or catalytic).
    • Using cells on barriers and creating rift guardians gives additional Runecraft XP based on the cell tier.
  • End-of-game XP drop:
    • If you gain at least 300 total energy in a round, you receive a large Runecraft XP drop equal to Runecraft level × 45.
    • There is a hard cap of 1,200 total energy per game (with a per‑type cap), so there is a ceiling to XP and points per round.
  • Points system:
    • Roughly every 100 elemental energy gives one elemental point, and every 100 catalytic energy gives one catalytic point, with a chance to round up based on the remainder.
    • One elemental + one catalytic point are consumed each time you loot the Rewards Guardian.

Rewards

Guardians of the Rift

  • Standard loot: Large amounts of runes, talismans, and other skilling supplies, scaling with your elemental and catalytic points spent.
  • Currency – Abyssal pearls: Used in the Temple Supplies shop to buy cosmetic and skilling upgrades tied to Guardians of the Rift.
  • Temple Supplies unlocks:
    • Raiments of the Eye runecrafting outfit for extra runes when crafting.
    • Ring of the elements for convenient teleports to elemental altars.
    • Guardian's eye cosmetic for the rift guardian pet.
    • Various elemental and catalytic talismans, including access to higher-level altars.
  • Unique drops from the Rewards Guardian:
    • Abyssal needle to combine all essence pouches into a colossal pouch.
    • Abyssal lantern that boosts the minigame in different ways depending on the logs used to light it.
    • Abyssal dyes to recolour Raiments of the Eye, the amulet of the eye, and the lost bag.
    • Abyssal pearls, intricate pouches, Atlax's diary, elemental/catalytic talismans, and the Abyssal protector pet.

Blood runecrafting (Zeah Blood Altar)

  • XP rates:
    • Each dark essence fragment bound into blood runes gives 23.8 Runecraft XP.
    • Per trip experience scales with how many dense essence blocks you turn into fragments; highly optimised routes are a few thousand XP per run and strong XP/hr when combined with good agility.
  • Rune yield:
    • Without a blood essence, a typical trip caps at just over 200 blood runes from one full setup of dense/dark essence.
    • With an active blood essence or diary bonuses, you can push this to around 300 per trip or more runes overall, but XP per fragment stays the same.
  • Profit & products:
    • Crafting blood runes here is a strong money-maker at high Runecraft, with different setups ranging from mid to high six‑figure gp/hr depending on stats and movement efficiency.
    • The altar is also used to convert splitbark into the Bloodbark armour set (body, legs, helm, gloves, boots) by combining splitbark pieces with large quantities of blood runes for extra Runecraft XP and magic‑oriented armour upgrades.
